Everyone can participate in DiscoverU! The week is simply about supporting students in our region to explore their college and career options, in school and the community. If you’re a business, you might post pictures of careers at your company to #DiscoverUWA so that students and educators can see the variety of jobs in our local economy. If you’re a parent, you can point out the careers you see when you’re going from place to place with your student.
Top Three Ways to Participate
1. Lead activities and conversations with youth that align to the DiscoverU Week theme days
The DiscoverU website has lots of resources to help educators explore different career pathways with students. A great place for educators to start is our Theme Days! Similar to “Spirit Week,” these themes provide simple ideas for how you can bring college and career exploration into your classroom every day during DiscoverU Week.
2. Post on social media
We encourage you to share your DiscoverU Week activities on social media to generate excitement and to inspire others with your bright ideas! Be sure to follow and tag us #DiscoverUWA on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, and use the Theme Day hashtags as well. Use our social media guide as a tool to create your messages. Whether you’re an employer, educator, or community-based organization, we want to hear your thoughts and experiences about college and career exploration.
3. Participate in the DiscoverU Week classroom door decoration contest
New this year, we are holding a region-wide classroom door decoration contest during DiscoverU Week. Classrooms and youth programs can show their creativity and pride in college and career exploration, and even have their students join in on the decorating.
There will be public voting on one grand prize school winner for the Road Map Project region, and DiscoverU staff will select awards for best postsecondary pathway themed door, best career themed door, most creative door, best in district, and best in youth program.
