Ever wonder how schools and community-based organizations participate in DiscoverU Week? Shawnte Garrett, the college and career specialist at Federal Way’s Truman Campus, shared a fun DiscoverU activity that connected pre-K students with high school students!
For our service project, we purchased food for our backpack weekends, ORCA cards for three students at our school, and snack packs for the preschool class we visited last Friday, all to help support the students that are homeless in our building. We spent 30 minutes with our preschool friends talking about the different levels of education and college. Two of the preschool friends have social challenges; however, they were super talkative with the high schoolers! For our #FlashForwardFriday photo booth, we had the preschool students wear graduation caps, and we used the DiscoverU props and the Snapchat photo board. Two of the high school students now have internships with that preschool class.
